Mace Crafting and Combat: Heavy Core, Breeze Rods, Smash Attacks (1.21+)

This short guide covers how to get and use the Mace in Minecraft 1.21+ for Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. The core progression is the same in both: explore Trial Chambers, fight Breezes, and craft the weapon. Some timing/feel and redstone interactions can differ slightly by edition.

Quick steps

Step 1: Find a Trial Chamber (generated structure) and prepare for close-range combat. Bring food, blocks, and solid armor; expect spawners and multiple enemy waves.

Step 2: Defeat Breezes inside the chamber to obtain Breeze Rods. You’ll need rods specifically; other drops won’t substitute.

Step 3: Get a Heavy Core from Trial Chamber loot (it is not a routine mob drop). If you can’t find one quickly, keep exploring additional chambers and their loot sources.

Step 4: Craft the Mace using a Heavy Core plus Breeze Rods at a crafting table (recipe available in 1.21+). If your recipe book doesn’t show it, confirm the world is on 1.21+ and cheats/modpacks aren’t altering recipes.

Step 5: Use smash attacks by striking after a fall: the Mace’s signature damage scales with your falling momentum, rewarding controlled drops onto targets (great for clustered mobs in chambers).

Tip: Use safe drop setups (stairs, water, or ledges) to trigger smash damage repeatedly without risking lethal fall damage—especially in Hardcore (Java) or high-difficulty worlds.
