Trial Keys, Ominous Trials and Vault Loot (1.21+)

Intro (Java & Bedrock 1.21+)

Intro (Java & Bedrock 1.21+)

Trial Chambers add repeatable combat “trials” with trial spawners and reward vaults. You’ll collect Trial Keys (and rarer Ominous Trial Keys) to open vaults for loot. Core mechanics are similar in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, but exact loot tables and some timing/behavior details can differ by edition and update.

Quick steps

Step 1: Find a Trial Chamber. Explore underground structures and come prepared: food, blocks, a shield (Java), and solid armor/weapons.

Step 2: Trigger a trial spawner. When you enter its area, it begins spawning waves of hostile mobs for that encounter.

Step 3: Win the encounter and collect rewards. After completing waves, trial spawners can drop items, including Trial Keys. (Drops and rates may vary between Java and Bedrock.)

Step 4: Use keys on nearby vaults. Interact with a vault while holding the matching key type. A regular Trial Key opens standard vault rewards; an Ominous Trial Key opens the ominous variant for different/better loot.

Step 5: Start an Ominous Trial when ready. In general, “ominous” trials are tougher and are associated with Bad Omen/ominous effects in 1.21+. If you’re unsure how to reliably get the ominous effect on your edition, check the in-game effect description or patch notes for your platform.

Tip: Clear one room at a time, block off sightlines, and save Ominous Trial Keys for when you have spare healing and strong gear.
