Nether Respawn Anchor: Charge and Build a Safe Shelter
Build a compact Nether base with a protected return point.
Build a compact Nether base with a protected return point.
A Nether respawn anchor lets you return to the Nether after death, provided it still has a charge and an available respawn position. This shelter uses standard Java and Bedrock 1.21 mechanics, without requiring a dangerous death test.
Materials: Bring 168 cobblestone, one iron door, two stone buttons, two torches, one chest, one crafting table, and one respawn anchor. Craft the anchor from six crying obsidian and three glowstone blocks; bring four additional glowstone blocks for charging. Pack food, a suitable pickaxe, and spare building blocks separately.
Step 1: Choose a dry, stable site in the Nether, away from lava and exposed cliff edges. Check your dimension before using the anchor, and leave a clear approach to the entrance.
Step 2: Build a 7-by-7 cobblestone floor. Add perimeter walls three blocks high, leaving a two-block-high doorway centered in one side. Cover the structure with a complete 7-by-7 roof. These surfaces use exactly 168 blocks.
Step 3: Fit the iron door into the entrance. Attach a stone button to each face of the wall block immediately beside the upper half of the door. Confirm that you can open it from both sides.
Step 4: Place the anchor at the center of the 5-by-5 interior. Keep all eight surrounding floor positions clear, with at least two air blocks above each. Put the chest, crafting table, and torches near the corners instead.
Step 5: Use glowstone blocks on the anchor to add up to four charges. Glowstone dust is not fuel. Adding the fourth charge is safe in the Nether, and an empty Nether anchor does not explode.
Step 6: Switch to an empty hand, with no glowstone in your offhand, and use the charged anchor to set your spawn. Look for the confirmation message, then check your exits and landing spaces without deliberately dying.
Never attempt to set spawn using a charged anchor in the Overworld or End: it explodes. Setting spawn in the Nether costs no charge; respawning uses one.
Keep spare glowstone in the chest and recharge after returning from a death. Beds can overwrite your spawn, and mining the anchor loses its stored charges.
