Perfect Enchanting Setup: Bookshelves, Lapis and Grindstone
Fast setup for Java & Bedrock (current releases)
Fast setup for Java & Bedrock (current releases)
This setup gives you consistent level 30 enchant options using an Enchanting Table, the correct bookshelf layout, and nearby utility blocks. It works in both Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. One key difference: Java uses 1 Lapis Lazuli per enchant, while Bedrock typically uses more Lapis per enchant depending on the option.
Quick steps
Step 1: Craft and place an Enchanting Table. You’ll need Obsidian, Diamonds, and a Book.
Step 2: Place 15 Bookshelves around the table to unlock level 30 enchants. Keep a 1-block gap between the table and shelves, and make sure the space between is clear (no torches, carpet, or blocks in the gap).
Step 3: Confirm the setup: the enchant list should show a top option of level 30 when you have enough XP levels. If it doesn’t, remove obstructions and re-check distance.
Step 4: Put Lapis Lazuli in the enchanting UI (required for enchanting in both editions). Bring extra lapis for Bedrock.
Step 5: Place a Grindstone nearby to remove unwanted enchantments from items (this refunds some XP) and to clear “bad” enchants so you can re-enchant.
Tip: If you don’t like the available enchantments, enchant a cheap item (like a low-cost book or tool) to “reroll” the table’s offers, then check again.
